The incident began when a woman, visibly distressed and in a state of anguish, found herself standing perilously close to the edge of the parapet and behind the railings at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. The woman appeared to be wanting to jump down from the railing. The situation was dire, and onlookers could sense the urgency of the matter.
Amidst the panic and concern that gripped the scene, two individuals emerged as heroes. One of them was believed to be an employee of the train station, while the other was a man in his sixties.
The video capturing this harrowing moment shows the two heroes holding tightly onto the distressed woman’s arms, providing both physical support and emotional reassurance. Their actions showcased remarkable empathy and a genuine desire to help a fellow human being in her time of need.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the rescue operation was ultimately successful, and the woman was then sent to the hospital.
Law Enforcement’s Response
The Singapore Police Force confirmed that the 43-year-old woman, who had been at the center of this dramatic rescue, was transported to the hospital while still conscious.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) played a pivotal role in this lifesaving operation. They received a call for assistance and promptly deployed resources to the scene. The woman was then conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Subsequent to the incident, it was revealed that the woman was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. This underscores the importance of not only immediate rescue but also follow-up care and support for individuals facing mental health challenges.
