When celebrating one of life’s most joyous occasions, such as a wedding, the last thing anyone expects is to fall ill due to food poisoning.
However, a recent incident at The St Regis Singapore hotel shocked many when thirty people attending a wedding banquet there came down with food poisoning, according to The Straits Times.
The Unfortunate Incident
On September 3rd, a wedding banquet took place at The St Regis Singapore hotel. It was meant to be a day of celebration and happiness, but it turned into a health scare.
Thirty individuals who attended the banquet reported falling ill afterwards. What made this situation more distressing was the revelation that even the bride herself was among those affected.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) promptly launched an investigation, working in conjunction with the Ministry of Health.
The Hotel’s Perspective
The St Regis Singapore hotel responded to the situation by initiating its investigation. Their spokesperson stated that the investigation included an examination by the hotel’s hygiene officer of the food preparation process.
Additionally, they also collected food samples from the wedding dinner and sent them for laboratory tests with a third-party accredited food safety expert, the test results were found to be in accordance with food safety guidelines.
The hotel assured the public that they were fully cooperating with the authorities during the investigations. They also emphasized their commitment to hygiene and cleanliness, with the well-being of their guests being their top priority.
They are also in constant communication with the wedding couple, extending care and support as needed.
Understanding Food Poisoning
To fully comprehend the gravity of the situation, it’s essential to understand what food poisoning is. According to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases, symptoms of food poisoning can include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, muscle aches, fatigue and loss of appetite.
These symptoms can be caused by consuming contaminated food tainted with chemicals or microorganisms.
