Mum’s going to jail – what to do?
For context, my dad’s dead, it’s just my mum and I. She refuses to let me in on the court details but I definitely know she’s going to jail.
Im still reeling over everything but right now I’m pretty worried about all the financial consequences, especially since she’s the primary breadwinner and I’m only in poly Y1.
I don’t know if I should drop out and work or what I should do in general? I don’t know who is going to pay the house bills, my school fees, all that.
I just turned 18 so I can definitely take care of myself but not gonna lie, the cost of living in SG is so high i don’t know what to do without a stable income and all that.
Technically I have maternal aunts and uncles in SG that might be able to take me in but they all kind of hate my mum cus of some family drama, but I don’t really know them and have never spoken to them
Any advice?
EDIT: I also have a younger sister in primary school and im scared if we will be separated. I can take care of myself but I have to admit, it will be quite tough to also take care of her. I want the best for her even if it means sending her to someone who can provide for her better, but I have an irrational fear that I will never see her again

- Don’t drop out if you are doing fine in school. Get help from a social worker.
- There are avenues to seek help from (FSCs for one). It is near impossible that you will never see your sis again, unless she is the one who doesn’t want to see you. It isn’t how our government work for cases like these.
I think the question here is what the plan here is. Are you planning to stay together with your sister? Are you planning to live separately?
