In the opening moments of the livestream, Cao was seen with his arms wrapped around fellow actor Dawn Yeoh’s waist while holding his head beside her neck.
The Second Hugging Incident (19 Sep)
Approximately a week later, on September 19th, Terence Cao and Dawn Yeoh recreated a similar pose during another livestream, this time promoting jewellery on the live stream.
The Most Controversial ‘Hugging Incident’ (30 Sep)
The climax of this controversy came on September 30th when Terence Cao was seen hugging a lady named Joyce during a live stream.
Joyce, reportedly the owner of a Malaysian beauty company, had enlisted Cao’s help in promoting her business. The incident drew significant criticism from online viewers who accused Cao of exploiting such tactics to take advantage of women.
Cao responds
Following the online backlash against him, Cao took to a Facebook livestream to explain himself. He said that he had gotten the women’s consent to hug them in his videos.
He also responded to the backlash towards him and said that he will never change, because his clients hired him to promote or sell their products, he has to “go all the way” because it’s his job.
