MAN ARRESTED FOR LOANSHARK HARASSMENT

The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

On 25 October 2023, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Sumang Lane, where the unit was splashed with red paint. A debtors’ note was also left behind.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is allegedly involved in another case of loanshark harassment in Sembawang Crescent.

The man will be charged in court on 27 October 2023 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist the loansharks in any way. The public can call the Police at ‘999‘ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.

On 19 October 2023 at about 9.10pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Punggol Road, where the unit’s main gate was splashed with paint and locked with a bicycle lock. 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 20 October 2023. Related paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits.

The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in three cases of loanshark harassment. 

On 19 October 2023 at about 6.35pm, Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Marsiling Rise, where unknown liquid believed to be turpentine was splashed at the doorway of the unit and a debtor’s note was left on a shoe rack beside the said doorway. 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Woodlands and Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 20 October 2023. Preliminary investigations disclosed that the man is allegedly involved in two cases of loanshark harassment in Choa Chu Kang and Jurong West.  Related paraphernalia, including debtor’s notes, were seized as case exhibits.

The Police have arrested a 59-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 3 October 2023 at about 5.30pm, Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Bedok North Road, where the gate of a residential unit was secured with a bicycle lock.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 4 October 2023. One mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.
