HELP!! Ex from hell claiming I owe him money…
I (25F) am having trouble with my ex-fiance (27M) who is threatening me with legal action to return $5k which I borrowed from him in 2020 to pay off my credit card during our relationship.
But this is a complicated situation because we shared the credit card (under my name) and he used it to fund his daily spending as well.
According to him, I encouraged him to spend in order to earn miles on my CC but I only did so with the intention that he would transfer me back and that we could travel overseas together.
Also, I would buy him daily necessities without expecting anything in return. All in all, I was under the impression that we were providing for each other equally.
However, things didn’t work out and we chose to break up amicably and agreed to stay as acquaintances. Since then the topic of money has never surfaced, and communication with him was minimal.
Anyways, fast forward to today, he is using screenshots with parts of our conversations (where I agreed to pay him back) to support his claim that I owe him the cash.
but he is taking it out of context as he would later verbally agree that I do not have to pay him back because he was also responsible for part of the total spending throughout our relationship.
What should I do about the situation? This situation came out of nowhere and has been quite distressing to me.

Sounds like the 5k was used to paid for combined expenses? Easiest is to settle with him and pay a portion of the 5k which covered mainly your own spending and ask him to gtfo.
