$1M WORTH OF VALUABLES SEIZED IN POLICE RAID ON ILLEGAL GAMBLERS – FROM “HUAT” TO “WHAT!”

In a recent two-day operation against unlawful remote betting, the police in Singapore have made significant strides in curbing illegal gambling activities.

This operation led to the seizure of valuables valued at nearly $1 million, which included a substantial sum in cash, luxury watches, electronic devices, and gambling-related documents. Additionally, 32 individuals were arrested in connection with the operation.

Unveiling the Seized Valuables

The police operation yielded impressive results, with law enforcement seizing valuables totaling almost $1 million.

These seized assets include more than $860,000 in cash and eight luxury watches. Additionally, electronic devices like computers and mobile phones, along with documents linked to syndicated gambling activities, were also confiscated.

The operation led to the arrest of 31 men and one woman, ranging in age from 24 to 67. The arrests were made during simultaneous raids conducted across various locations in Singapore, including Ubi, Ang Mo Kio, Watten Estate, Choa Chu Kang, Hougang, Punggol, Fernvale, Yishun, and Tampines.

Agencies Involved

This operation was a collaborative effort, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Police Intelligence Department, Special Operations Command, and seven land divisions joined forces to execute this crackdown effectively.

5. Legal Ramifications

Two individuals, aged 41 and 58, are set to face charges under the Gambling Control Act 2022. Investigations against other suspects are currently underway. The law is clear when it comes to unlawful betting operations. Those found guilty of operating such activities may face fines of up to $500,000 and imprisonment for up to seven years.

Individuals involved in conducting unlawful betting operations as agents also face legal consequences. They may be subjected to fines of up to $200,000 and imprisonment for up to five years.

The law does not spare those who gamble with unlawful gambling service providers. Such individuals may be fined up to $10,000, jailed for up to six months, or a combination of both. These strict consequences are in place to deter unlawful gambling activities and protect the community.
