RETIRED DAD STAYS HOME 24/7, KEEPS THROWING AWAY FAMILY’S STUFF

How to deal with family members who keep throwing away my stuff?

Advertisements

Dad retired a few years ago and is now staying home 24/7. I’m guessing due to the long hours at home, he is getting frustrated with the “mess” at home and it starting to clear things bit by bit.

Ok granted our house is not the neatest, but it’s very much liveable (3 of us are always out, we’re too tired to deal with any housework.)

I can’t understand: he could have just cleared his own stuff (yes a ton of it). Why tf does he keep throwing our stuff???

Once he threw away an old sewing machine (worth 100+, passed down from prev gen) and that really made mom REALLY mad.

She demanded him to pay her back but obv this strategy does not work.

Idk?? Isit coz we are living in a house under his name so he feels he can do anything to our space??? I thought of locking the door but I don’t want to create any hostility within the family?

And how tf do I lock the living room space???

Please share if any of yall have similar experiences.

I’m writing this as my blood boils, please be nice 🙂

  • Throw away the dad
  • Posted about this in the past. I also had parents who just throw away my stuff without asking, sometimes things that are irreplaceable. For instance, boxes for some expensive figurines I bought, which had all the alternative heads, hands and weapons inside. Those accesories can’t be bought separately and the figures themselves cost well into the hundreds.

Unfortunately talking to them did not really work as they very much believe in “my house, my rules” philosophy. After that incident, I took to keeping away my important stuff in locked drawers and also labelling boxes “Do-Not-Throw”. I did consider locking my door but similarly, I think it will be too hostile.
