The once-beloved vlogger is now under intense scrutiny after netizens accused him of conning them of their money using his mother’s cancer diagnosis.
Jake’s Plea for Help
In seemingly “heartfelt” videos, Jake disclosed his mother’s battle with leukaemia, revealing staggering medical fees. Touched by his vulnerability, Taiwanese netizens generously opened their hearts and wallets, contributing donations to the tune of NT$5mil (S$212,488).
As donations poured in, Jake expressed gratitude, questioning why strangers treated him so kindly. However, the tide turned when netizens, perplexed by the emotional toll on Jake, began questioning the authenticity of his videos.
Filmed own mother dying
The controversy deepened as Jake posted videos documenting his mother’s passing, including unsettling footage next to her presumed body. Viewers, torn between empathy and skepticism, wondered how one could film during such an emotionally taxing period.
Adding fuel to the fire, Jake and his father embarked on a luxurious holiday in Japan, flaunting their lifestyle in Business Class. This drew the attention of a Taiwanese YouTuber, “攝徒日記Fun TV,” who exposed alleged misappropriation of the donated funds.
Exposed by another YouTuber
攝徒日記Fun TV meticulously dissected Jake’s claims. Discrepancies emerged, with evidence suggesting Jake misled viewers about his mother’s treatment location. Deleting live streams raised suspicions of a cover-up.
A netizen’s testimony further fueled skepticism. Despite a generous donation, Jake reportedly blocked the donor without acknowledgment, raising questions about the true intent behind his appeal for financial aid.
Jake’s Defense Falls Short
In a desperate attempt to salvage his reputation, Jake uploaded a video dismissing accusations, urging viewers to wait for the truth. However, netizens remained unconvinced, expressing their disappointment and distrust in the comments section.
