In the age of online shopping, the convenience of doorstep deliveries is a significant draw for consumers. However, what happens when a delivery arrives at an unexpected and inconvenient hour? Shopee, a prominent e-commerce platform, finds itself under scrutiny after a shopper raised concerns about a delivery received past 2 am.
Late-Night Notifications
On Nov 30, Shawn Tan took to a Facebook group, Complaint Singapore, expressing his frustration about receiving delivery notifications well past 2 am.
The incessant message notifications not only disturbed his sleep but also raised questions about the appropriateness of deliveries during the early morning hours.
Adding to the frustration, Mr Tan noted that the same delivery person had made a delivery close to 11 pm the night before.
The consecutive late-night deliveries prompted him to question the necessity and professionalism of such untimely services.

Work Constraints
Mr Tan highlighted that he couldn’t put his phone on silent mode due to work commitments. The successive notifications, therefore, not only interrupted his sleep but also created an alarming atmosphere, as he initially believed it to be an urgent matter.
The fundamental query that arose from this incident was why a delivery was being attempted at such an unconventional hour. Mr Tan, echoing the sentiments of many, questioned the need for parcel notifications and deliveries at 2 am.
Apology and Clarification
Upon expressing his frustration to the delivery person, Mr Tan received an apology. The delivery person, however, clarified that he was compelled to clear his workload despite being unwell.
This raised concerns not only about the timing of deliveries but also about the well-being of the delivery personnel.
The revelation that the delivery person was working while sick shed light on the challenges faced by those in the delivery industry.

Acknowledging the Complaint
In response, a Shopee spokesperson acknowledged the shopper’s complaint and expressed gratitude for bringing the incident to their attention.
Shopee revealed that they are actively investigating the situation. They are coordinating closely with SPX and the service agency employing the said delivery partner. The aim is to ensure strict adherence to service level agreements and local labor and employment laws.
The spokesperson emphasized that the safety and well-being of delivery partners are of paramount importance to Shopee.
Recognizing the critical role these individuals play in the company’s operations, Shopee is committed to addressing any issues that may compromise their health or working conditions.
The netizen’s post on Facebook
This is clearly a problem with Shopee and their delivery fleet working their drivers to the bone. Was woken up by rapid vibrations on my phone thinking who needs to reach me so urgently at this hour sending so many msgs.
Lo and behold it’s a parcel delivery at 0219hrs. Nobody needs parcel notification of delivery at 2am and what is he doing even delivering things at this ungodly hour!?
Unless you’re Santa Claus and Santa doesn’t wake you to announce his arrival with rapid msgs, one of which so dark that I can’t even tell if it’s my house or something else altogether!
Yesterday the same delivery guy came at 2253hrs and we had just went to bed… But today he broke the record…
I don’t wanna blame him but seriously bruh… Some of us work in a job that cannot silent our phones or put it to Do not Disturb modes… waking up to a parcel does not feel like Christmas when it’s 2am
