Proofer Bakery Pte. Ltd. was fined $3,000 by the Court today for food safety lapses under the Sale of Food (Non-Retail Food Business) Regulations.

2 On 26 October 2021, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) officers inspected the food processing establishment’s premises at 171 Kampong Ampat. During the inspection, officers found dead mice on the floor in the food preparation area. In addition, several lapses relating to poor maintenance of the premises and equipment
were observed.

3 In the interest of public health, SFA suspended the food business operations of Proofer Bakery Pte Ltd from 26 October 2021 to 25 January 2022, and directed the licensee to rectify the lapses and take necessary measures to improve the food safety practices and cleanliness of its premises. As a precautionary measure, SFA had also directed the company to recall the various food products at Proofer Bakery Pte Ltd’s 16 retail outlets on 26 October 2021.

4 The suspension was lifted on 26 January 2022 after the food processing establishment had rectified the lapses and taken necessary measures to improve the food safety practices and the cleanliness of its premises.

5 Food safety is a joint responsibility as food can be contaminated anywhere along the food chain. While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers must also play their part.

6 All food operators should ensure their premises are clean and wellmaintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management. SFA will take enforcement action against food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food safety requirements. Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 and, in the case of a continuing offence, to a further fine not exceeding $100 for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues after conviction.
