A video emerged online showing a Chinese woman telling her fellow countrymen not to go to Singapore in search of work, cautioning them of hardships and suffering.

In her video, posted on Xiaohongshu, the woman urged her followers in Mandarin not to work in Singapore, despite Singapore being open to foreign workers with low fees and no language requirements.

However, she said, not everyone can stay there as they have to be prepared to undergo hardships, and it’s not as easy as just talking about it.

She said that although people can see that the workers who are already working in Singapore may appear to be living a good life, but that is only just the good side being portrayed.

She described their daily lives, where they knock off from work and get on the MRT to go home, unable to walk back to their residence, not getting used to the Singaporean cuisine and ending up only eating instant noodles and porridge, just to save money.

She also claimed that they have to squeeze together with 8 other people inside a hostel, far away from their homeland as they miss their families.

She highlighted how that is something that those who come to Singapore to work have to bear with, and it is only when they get over this hurdle and ordeal, that they can finally adapt to life in Singapore.

She said that these people have to endure for more than half a year before they can “exchange” it for a life that they want.

Warning potential jobseekers away from Singapore, she said that if you are someone who is unable to endure physical and mental hardships, “listen to her” and don’t go to Singapore.

Netizens’ comments

  1. I will thank her. We are a bit over crowded.
  2. I thought this was a Michelle Chong spoof video!!!
  3. It is quite true, for all foreign workers. The ability to adapt is important
  4. That’s because while they get higher pay working here, the cost of living in SG is much higher than China..so they lose out. What she says is true. The only way to save cost is cooking at home or eating maggie mee everyday.
