It was earlier reported that the Singapore Police Force had arrested 18 people during an islandwide operation against drink driving in the early morning hours of 23 December.
Among those arrested were two women, who had tried to evade a police roadblock and drove away from the scene, before swapping seats with each other, according to a report by STOMP.
What happened?
In the early morning of December 23, a routine roadblock along Upper Cross Street turned into a scene of chaos and legal repercussions. This incident involved two women who, rather than complying with traffic regulations, chose a path of evasion, leading to their arrest and a string of charges. Let’s delve into the details of this unfolding drama and its broader implications for road safety.
The incident occurred during a routine roadblock conducted by Traffic Police officers along Upper Cross Street, targeting motorists heading towards the Central Expressway.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when a car, instead of approaching the roadblock like others, stopped at a distance, raising suspicion among the officers.
Concerned by the car’s behavior, officers approached the vehicle. To their surprise, the driver reversed the car and hastily drove away, before swapping seats with her passenger inside the car.
Arrest of the Driver
The 31-year-old female driver, later identified, faced multiple charges, including suspected drink-driving, evasion of a roadblock, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance coverage, and obstructing the course of justice.
The arrest highlighted the severity of the charges, emphasizing the need for responsible and lawful behavior on the roads.
Arrest of the Passenger
Notably, the 28-year-old female passenger, who owned the car, was also arrested. She faced charges of drink-driving, permitting another person to use a vehicle without a valid driving license, permitting the use of a vehicle without insurance coverage, and obstructing the course of justice.
