The boss, known online as 楠哥哥 (translation: Brother Nan), is the founder of Fufa Shoes in Taiwan, and took to Facebook to share the decision, emphasizing that he values the comfort and happiness of his team over traditional corporate gatherings.

Initially Planned A Company Dinner Instead

Initially, Brother Nan had planned a company dinner event that required all employees to attend. However, upon learning that his staff felt uneasy about the presence of stakeholders and some meeting them for the first time, he opted to cancel the event.

Brother Nan shared that the employees expressed reluctance to attend such events, finding them stressful and potentially awkward, especially when meeting stakeholders for the first time in a formal setting.

Instead of proceeding with the corporate event, Brother Nan made a thoughtful decision to redistribute the funds allocated for it directly to the employees. Each staff member received an angbao containing NT10,000 (approximately S$427), which was a considerable amount more than the NT2,000 (approximately S$85) that would have been spent per person for the canceled event.

Cancels Dinner & Gives Staff Cash Instead

Highlighting the significance of prioritizing employee preferences, Brother Nan mentioned that the employees expressed a strong preference for the cash. This way, they could choose to spend it on a dinner with their family members, a more comfortable and enjoyable option for them.

In his Facebook post, Brother Nan emphasized the importance of considering employee sentiments and adjusting corporate practices accordingly. He noted that employees often prefer spending time with their families rather than attending formal events with their bosses.

Closing his post, Brother Nan conveyed his commitment to continuing to implement changes that cater to the needs and preferences of his staff, showcasing an employee-centric leadership approach.

The decision by Brother Nan received positive responses on social media, with many praising his understanding and considerate approach towards employee happiness.
