According to Sipitang district police chief Deputy Supt Mail Sundongi, the 19-year-old driver and a 14-year-old girl in the rear passenger seat died on the spot, while the other passengers were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The car veered off the road and landed in a ditch along Jalan Sabah Forest Industries, causing the driver and passenger to be pinned inside the vehicle.

DSP Mail said that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. JPJ enforcement officials immediately informed the police of the accident, and firemen were called in to help extricate the bodies from the wreckage.
