MAN BREAKS INTO MOSQUE AND STEALS MONEY FROM DONATION BOX

A 62-year-old man has been arrested by the police for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft at a mosque. The incident occurred on May 14, 2024, at around 9:05 pm, when the police received a report of a man stealing money from a mosque’s donation box.

The police launched an investigation and, with the aid of images from police cameras, were able to establish the identity of the suspect. Through ground enquiries, officers from Jurong Police Division were able to track down the suspect and arrest him on May 16, 2024. During the arrest, cash amounting to $16 was recovered, which is believed to be the stolen amount from the donation box.

Preliminary Investigations Reveal Modus Operandi

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly trespassed into the mosque after operating hours and used a clothes hanger to steal the money from the donation box. The suspect’s actions were caught on camera, which aided the police in their investigation. The police were able to piece together the evidence and build a strong case against the suspect.

Suspect to Face Charges in Court

The suspect will be charged in court on May 17, 2024, with the offence of Housebreaking punishable under Section 451 read with Section 458A of the Penal Code 1871. If found guilty, the suspect faces an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine and canning. The swift action taken by the police serves as a deterrent to potential criminals and ensures that justice is served.
