Two Men to Face Charges for Abandoning Vehicles After Accidents
Two men, aged 40 and 43, will appear in court on September 25, 2024, to face charges related to two separate incidents of allegedly abandoning their vehicles after being involved in accidents.
The first incident occurred on May 9, 2024, at around 3:40 am, when a car collided with a tree along Seletar Aerospace Way. The driver, a 43-year-old man, was not present at the scene when the police arrived. After being traced and identified, he admitted to losing control of his vehicle. However, he failed to report the incident to the police and allegedly abandoned his car. The vehicle was also found to have an unregistered number plate. The man will be charged with driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident, causing danger to other road users, and failing to display a correct registration plate.
The second incident took place on May 30, 2024, at around 3:30 am, when a car collided with a road directional sign along Seletar West Link. The driver, a 40-year-old man, was also not present at the scene when the police arrived. After being traced and identified, he admitted to losing control of his vehicle. He too failed to report the incident to the police and allegedly abandoned his car. He will be charged with driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident, and causing danger to other road users.
The charges carry various penalties, including fines and jail terms. Driving without due care and attention can result in a fine of up to $1,500, a jail term of up to six months, or both. Failing to stop after an accident can lead to a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. Causing danger to other road users can result in a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. Failing to display a correct registration plate can lead to a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both.
