The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of unauthorised transactions using stolen credit card information via a mobile wallet amounting to more than $24,000.
On 14 October 2024, the Police were alerted to a case of possible fraud activities using a mobile wallet in the vicinity of Sentosa Gateway. Officers from Clementi Police Division and the Anti-Scam Command (ASCom) responded and arrested the man.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he had allegedly used a mobile wallet, which was provisioned with several stolen credit card information, to make unauthorised purchases of Universal Studios Singapore (“USS”) tickets amounting to more than $24,000 at a self-help ticketing kiosk. More than 280 USS tickets which were believed to have been purchased using the stolen credit card information via mobile wallet, two SD cards, four drone equipment and seven mobile phones were found in his possession and seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on 16 October 2024 with the offence of abetment by conspiracy to commit cheating under Section 420 read with Section 116 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police would like to remind members of the public that unauthorised use of another person’s credit/debit card information is a serious offence and take a serious view against any person who commits fraud. Perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
