Three Arrested in Geylang Robbery: A Lesson in Poor Choices and Bad Company
In a recent turn of events, the Police have apprehended three men, aged between 21 and 36, for their alleged roles in a robbery with injury and the receipt of stolen property. The incident unfolded on October 15, 2024, around 9:40 AM, when authorities were alerted to a robbery along Lorong 35 Geylang. A 27-year-old male victim reported being assaulted by an unknown assailant, resulting in minor injuries, as well as the theft of his mobile phone and a small amount of cash.
Thanks to diligent ground inquiries and surveillance footage from nearby CCTV cameras, officers from the Bedok Police Division quickly identified the trio involved in this not-so-masterful crime spree. The arrests took place on October 16 and 17, 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was confronted and assaulted by a 29-year-old man, who made off with a mere $7 in cash and a handphone valued at $199.
But the plot thickens! The 29-year-old suspect allegedly passed the stolen phone to his two accomplices, aged 21 and 36, who then decided to sell it. Fortunately, the stolen phone was later recovered and seized as evidence, proving that crime doesn’t always pay—especially when you’re not very good at it.
The 29-year-old suspect is set to face charges in court on October 18, 2024, for robbery with hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code 1871. This serious offense carries a hefty penalty of imprisonment for a minimum of five years, up to 20 years, along with a mandatory caning of at least 12 strokes. Meanwhile, his two accomplices will also be charged on the same day for receiving stolen property under Section 411 of the Penal Code 1871, which could land them up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
The Police have made it clear that they will not tolerate such audacious criminal behavior and will pursue offenders relentlessly to ensure justice is served. They urge the public to remain vigilant and calm in the face of crime, advising individuals to take note of any distinctive features of perpetrators and to contact the Police immediately.
In a world where common sense seems to be in short supply, this incident serves as a reminder that crime, especially when poorly executed, can lead to swift consequences.
