MAN KEEP PERSONAL/WORK LIVES SEPARATE, ONLY INTERACTION WITH COLLEAGUES IS LUNCH

Are you personal friends with your colleagues?

Advertisements

I heard stories of colleagues hanging out on weekends, sharing their personal issues and even going on holidays together. Does that happen often in workplaces here?

Personally I keep my personal and working life separate. My social interaction with my colleagues is only limited to eating lunch and the occasional chat in pantry. I don’t know if getting that close to colleagues is a good idea.

Netizens’ comments

  1. Being friendly and treating them as friends are 2 separate things. Never be friends with your direct colleagues. Tio backstab 1 too many times
  2. You only know if you’re friends for real if you’re still hanging out years after you stop being colleagues.
  3. I’m probably in the minority here but I’ve never fully bought into the emphasis on don’t shit where you work or maintaining a separation between work and personal life, etc… I need to spend at least 8 hours a day 5 days a week seeing my colleagues, so if I can be friends with them why not??? Helps the time pass quicker and makes work a whole lot more bearable.
That being said I totally get that you won’t be friends with everyone you meet in life and that applies to colleagues too. It really depends on whether you have common interests, are on the same wavelength, etc. Even though I’m open to it I really only have 2 – 3 people at work that I can say I view as more than just a colleague, but I feel really lucky to be working with them for sure!
  4. My own team for sure, I mean we literally have to cover each other’s backs and so far were doing pretty well. We know each other’s secrets and will keep it that way
  5. Coworkers and bosses are not your friends no matter how friendly they seem. Just be on good terms with them but don’t share abt ur personal life with them, they can use it against you.
  6. To each their own. I’m close friends to few after a decade plus of knowing each other and no longer in the same company. Meet maybe once/twice a year for the full update.
  7. No personal friends at work. Even my boss I only did small talk. No common interests
