In a shocking incident that unfolded in the early hours of May 21, two young women in Pattaya reported separate cases of sexual assault and robbery, leading authorities to believe that the same perpetrator may be responsible for both attacks. The victims, aged 20 and 18, filed their complaints at the Mueang Pattaya Police Station within an hour of each other, prompting an urgent investigation.
First Victim
The first victim, identified as Dao, arrived at the police station at approximately 2:21 AM, accompanied by a colleague. She recounted her harrowing experience, which began around 10 PM the previous night as she was en route to her job at a bar located on Pattaya Soi 6. Dao described how she was approached by a man who, despite speaking Thai, had an unclear accent. He invited her to his accommodation, and she reluctantly agreed, getting onto his motorcycle.
However, the situation took a dark turn when the man diverted into a secluded alley. There, he brandished a knife, coercing her to walk to an abandoned restroom where he assaulted her. After the attack, he demanded her belongings, which included cash, a mobile phone, and personal documents, before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle. Dao managed to make her way to her workplace to seek assistance from her colleagues.
Shortly after Dao’s report, a second victim, a 17-year-old girl whose identity has not been disclosed, approached the police with a similar account. She was waiting for a ride-share motorcycle on Pattaya Beach, near Soi Pattaya 3, when the suspect approached her, mistakenly believing she was a sex worker. After she clarified her situation, the man offered to give her a ride home.
Once on his motorcycle, he took her into a dark forested area, where he attempted to force her into a sexual act while threatening her with a knife. Fortunately, the teenager managed to escape and sought help from a passing motorist, who assisted her in reaching the police station.
The rapid succession of these two reports, both involving a similar modus operandi, has led investigators to suspect that the same individual is behind both assaults. Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage that captured the suspect, described as wearing a black shirt and white-striped pants, and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend him.
In addition to the ongoing investigation, police have discovered a used condom at one of the crime scenes, although it has yet to be confirmed whether it is linked to the suspect. The police are diligently working to trace the escape route of the assailant and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
