Reports from various Indonesian media outlets indicate that this sensational incident took place in the village of Abanuang in Soppeng Regency, with the affair first coming to light early last year. The village head, Bukhari, shared that the man had initially been in a stable marriage with his 21-year-old wife. However, at some point, he crossed boundaries with his 36-year-old mother-in-law, leading to her pregnancy and the eventual birth of a son. The exposure of this affair sparked intense conflict between the two families involved.

Bukhari stated, “He made his mother-in-law pregnant and then married her, which led to his divorce from his original wife. However, now that some time has passed, both families have come to accept the reality, and relations have returned to normal.”

The head of the Soppeng police district, Aditya, added that the woman involved became a widow after her husband passed away, which allowed the son-in-law to develop a romantic relationship with her. After the affair was uncovered, local government officials intervened to mediate the situation. Following multiple discussions, both families ultimately agreed to the man’s divorce from his wife and his marriage to his mother-in-law as a means to resolve the conflict.

While this unusual family situation has temporarily settled, its absurdity and controversy continue to attract significant attention and debate within Indonesian society. The incident raises questions about familial relationships and societal norms, prompting discussions about morality and the implications of such actions in a traditional context.
