SCDF was alerted to a fire at 21 Tuas View Place at about 1.40 pm. The fire, involving large marine buoys filled with dense foam, was mitigated using several foam jets. The fire was confined within the storage yard of about the size of a basketball court.
The fire was extinguished at 7:50 pm. It was a protracted firefighting operation due to the difficulty in accessing the deep seated fire as the rows of large buoys had melted and fused together.
Damping down operations are currently in progress. SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire.
*Damping down is a term used by SCDF to describe the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire is put out. This is to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces.
