Accident Involving Lorry Carrying Migrant Workers on AYE Leaves 17 Injured

On May 29, 2025, a serious accident occurred on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near the Jalan Boon Lay exit, involving a lorry transporting migrant workers. The incident, which took place around 8:30 AM, resulted in 17 individuals sustaining injuries, with 10 of them requiring hospitalization.

According to reports from Shin Min Daily News, the lorry involved in the accident was owned by Mespec Private Limited and was carrying migrant workers when it collided with another lorry belonging to NTUC FairPrice. The collision was described as a rear-end accident, where one vehicle struck the other from behind.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded promptly, transporting eight injured individuals to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and two others to the National University Hospital. The police confirmed that the injured workers, aged between 26 and 55, were passengers in the Mespec lorry. Additionally, SCDF paramedics assessed another seven individuals at the scene for minor injuries; however, they declined to be taken to the hospital.

All ten workers who were hospitalized were discharged on the same day and were provided with medical leave ranging from two to five days. A spokesperson for NTUC FairPrice Group acknowledged the incident and stated that they are cooperating with the relevant authorities during the investigation.

The driver of the lorry, a 34-year-old man, is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
