A woman in China has tragically lost sight in her right eye after being intentionally shot with a high-pressure water gun by a man at a local scenic spot. The incident occurred while she was enjoying a rafting experience, causing severe damage to her eyeball and immediate blindness.
Deliberate Act
A woman from Shandong province recently posted on social media, recounting how she was attacked while rafting at the Qilu Songshan Canyon rafting site in Linqu County. According to her account, a man maliciously shot her in the eye with a high-pressure water gun, resulting in severe injury and blindness in her right eye. Chinese police have confirmed that the suspect has been located and has admitted to the act.
According to a report by China’s Yangzi Evening News, the incident took place at approximately 2:50 PM last Saturday (July 7th).
The woman was visiting the scenic area with friends and had briefly stopped to make a purchase before re-boarding her raft. Unexpectedly, a group of people forcibly dragged her to the shore, where a man wielding a high-pressure water gun sprayed her at close range.
“I was overwhelmed by the great force and squatted down, holding my head. The water gun was causing me pain on my back and side of my face,” the woman stated.
Despite her pleas to stop, the man aimed the water gun at her eye again. With the distance between them less than half a meter, the powerful water pressure directly struck her right eye, causing immediate blindness.
She reported the incident to the police, but the man not only refused to apologize but also allegedly assaulted, insulted, and threatened her before fleeing the scene.
The woman was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment, where doctors determined that her injuries were severe and transferred her to a higher-level medical facility.
A diagnostic report revealed that the woman suffered a contusion to her right eyeball and traumatic hyphema (blood in the front chamber of the eye). Doctors stated, “If you were to describe the entire black eyeball as a pool of water, the inside has been turned into a pool of blood by the impact.”
Following the incident, the woman posted a plea for help on social media, hoping that fellow tourists who were on the same raft or present at the scene would provide eyewitness information.
Suspect Admits to the Attack
According to Red Star News, the local Culture and Tourism Bureau, upon receiving information about the incident, stated that the local public security department had launched an investigation. The authorities will also urge the scenic area to strengthen the management of dangerous equipment such as high-pressure water guns.
Furthermore, authorities informed the media that the suspect did not leave the scenic area immediately after the incident. Police subsequently contacted the man, who admitted to the attack. The case is currently under further investigation.
No amount of insurance payouts can recover her sight.
