Key Findings and Violations

During the enforcement checks, a range of traffic offences were identified, leading to the issuance of summonses for various infractions. These included:

  • Speeding: 17 offences detected
  • Using a mobile communication device while driving
  • Failing to wear a seatbelt

The Traffic Police emphasized the importance of compliance with traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users.

Awareness Campaign on Speed Limiters

In conjunction with the enforcement actions, TP officers engaged with lorry drivers to raise awareness about the upcoming mandatory installation of speed limiters. Drivers were provided with a QR code linking to the Singapore Police Force website, where they could find information on authorized agents for speed limiter installation. This initiative aims to encourage early compliance and ensure that lorry owners share this information with their respective companies.

Superintendent of Police Lian Weixiong, head of the Research, Planning and Organisational Development Branch of Traffic Police, stated, “In today’s operation targeting lorries, Traffic Police detected at least 10 speeding violations. This shows that some lorry drivers continue to disregard traffic laws, risking the lives of other road users. I urge lorry owners required to install speed limiters to do so early to avoid speeding offences and accidents on the roads. Speed limiters will be mandatory for lorries in phases from January 1, 2026.”

Upcoming Regulations on Speed Limiters

To enhance road safety, lorries with a Maximum Laden Weight (MLW) between 3,501 kg and 12,000 kg will be required to have speed limiters installed by specified deadlines. These devices will ensure that lorries do not exceed the speed limit of 60 km/h. Companies and lorry owners are encouraged to arrange for the installation of speed limiters as soon as possible to comply with regulatory requirements and contribute to safer roads.

Penalties for Traffic Offences

The Traffic Police have outlined the penalties associated with various traffic offences, which include:

  • Speeding:
    • Fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both.
    • Repeat offenders may face fines of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
