Malaysia, Malacca: Authorities have confirmed that a 17-year-old Form Five student is the prime suspect in a tragic double murder case that occurred at Taman Rambai Mutiara, Bukit Rambai. The incident took place on Thursday, June 12, and has sent shockwaves through the community.

Details of the Incident

According to Melaka’s state police chief, Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, the suspect allegedly stabbed his 51-year-old mother multiple times while she was asleep in her bedroom. The victim’s 21-year-old eldest son attempted to intervene and was also stabbed during the attack. Tragically, both victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

In a further act of violence, the suspect also attacked his 13-year-old brother, who is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Melaka Hospital.

Motive Behind the Attack

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect was frustrated with his mother, a teacher at a vernacular primary school, due to her pressure for him to achieve high marks in his examinations. DCP Dzulkhairi noted that the suspect had been asked to excel academically and study late into the night, which may have contributed to the violent outburst.

Neighbors reported frequent arguments between the suspect, his mother, and his siblings, indicating a tense home environment.

Timeline and Evidence

The murder is believed to have occurred around 5 AM on June 12. The suspect allegedly used a 20cm pen knife to carry out the attack, which was later found in his school bag at the scene. When police arrived, the suspect was reportedly sitting on the porch of the house.

Initially, the suspect claimed that the murders were the result of a robbery. However, CCTV footage contradicted this claim, leading to his apprehension at the scene.

Investigation Findings

DCP Dzulkhairi stated that the motive behind the killings appears to be revenge, stemming from the suspect’s dissatisfaction with his mother’s insistence on academic excellence. Investigators also discovered that the suspect had planned the attack, having purchased the knife a few days prior to the incident.

“We consider the murder case solved with revenge as the motive,” DCP Dzulkhairi concluded, emphasizing the tragic nature of the events that unfolded.

Community Impact

This shocking incident has raised concerns about family dynamics and the pressures faced by students in their academic pursuits. As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the implications of such a violent act within a family setting.
