Johor Cracks Down On Unlicensed Drivers: Almost 5800 Summonses Issued

Unlicensed Driving Leads Offences During Johor RTD Festive Crackdown

In a recent enforcement operation conducted by the Johor Road Transport Department (RTD), a staggering 5,744 traffic summonses were issued over the course of a week, coinciding with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations. The operation, which ran from June 4 to June 10, aimed to address high-risk road offences and enhance safety during the festive period.

The most prevalent offence recorded was driving without a valid licence, which topped the list of violations. This was followed by 1,163 cases of expired road tax and 1,021 motorists found operating vehicles without insurance coverage. The RTD’s proactive measures are part of a broader strategy to reduce accidents and fatalities on the roads during busy holiday seasons.

State RTD director Azmil Zainal Adnan reported that a total of 45,395 vehicles were inspected throughout the state. In addition to the summonses, 5,573 P22 notices were issued for various infractions under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Land Public Transport Act 2010. The P22 notice specifically addresses five main offences, including failing to comply with traffic signals, driving in emergency lanes, using mobile phones while driving, overtaking on double lines, and speeding.

Seizures and Continued Violations

The operation also resulted in the seizure of 83 vehicles deemed unfit for road use, comprising 66 motorcycles, nine cars, and eight other vehicles. Furthermore, 169 summonses were issued for serious traffic violations, highlighting a concerning trend of non-compliance among motorists.

Azmil expressed his disappointment at the continued disregard for traffic laws, noting that many motorists were observed queue-jumping, overtaking on double lines, running red lights, and using mobile phones while driving. He emphasised that these reckless behaviours are significant contributors to fatal accidents on the roads.

“Failure to wear helmets and seat belts was another common offence flagged during the operation,” Azmil stated. He underscored the importance of adhering to road safety regulations, particularly among private vehicle users, and reiterated that the RTD would not tolerate blatant violations of traffic laws.

Commitment to Road Safety

The RTD’s enforcement efforts are set to continue as part of a commitment to ensuring a safer road environment for all users. Azmil’s statement serves as a reminder of the critical need for compliance with traffic regulations, especially during peak travel periods. The department aims to foster a culture of road safety through ongoing awareness campaigns and strict enforcement measures, ultimately striving to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on Malaysian roads.

As the festive season approaches, it is imperative for all motorists to remain vigilant and responsible, ensuring that they adhere to traffic laws for their safety and the safety of others.Bookmark messageCopy messageExport
