Details of the Incident

Images from the scene, shared with Lianhe Zaobao, depicted the car positioned across the centre lane, severely damaged with its bonnet twisted and parts of the bumper scattered on the road. Traffic police were promptly dispatched to manage the situation, blocking off two of the three lanes in the direction of Braddell Road, allowing only the far-left lane to remain open for traffic.

A tree on the road divider was also struck during the incident, necessitating the use of a crane to clear the debris. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that the driver had left the scene before officers arrived, and efforts are currently underway to locate them.

Legal Implications of Leaving the Scene

Under Singapore’s Road Traffic Act 1961, drivers involved in accidents that result in damage to persons, vehicles, or structures are required to report the incident to the police within 24 hours. Additionally, they must provide reasonable assistance as needed. Failing to report an accident or leaving the scene without assistance is considered an offence, which could lead to legal repercussions for the driver.

The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the legal obligations of drivers involved in accidents.
