According to Lianhe ZaoBao, The incident occurred on May 6, around 3:50 PM, when Fazli, who was working as a bus driver for SMRT, approached a 28-year-old auxiliary police officer stationed in the bus area. Initially, Fazli attempted to engage the officer in conversation in Malay. However, upon realising that the officer did not understand him, he switched to English and asked, “Does your gun have bullets?”
Without waiting for a response, Fazli reached out to touch the officer’s firearm. The officer, recognising the potential threat, quickly intervened by securing his weapon with both hands and calling for backup. Despite the warning, Fazli’s curiosity did not wane; he later attempted to reach for a second officer’s gun when assistance arrived, an act that was captured on the station’s CCTV cameras.
