Durians were sold from as little as S$2 for a small fruit, while another popular offer had three durians bundled for just S$10 — deals rarely seen in recent years given rising costs of the king of fruits. Many shoppers were spotted examining the spiky fruits closely before making their pick, keen to secure the best value.

Adding to the excitement, Mao Shan Wang — widely regarded as the “gold standard” of durians — was priced at just S$15 per kilogram. In the current market, where Mao Shan Wang can fetch upwards of S$20 to S$25/kg, this price attracted durian aficionados from across the island, keen to indulge in the premium variety without breaking the bank.

Affordable Mao Shan Wang a Major Draw

Shoppers told reporters they had come from other parts of Singapore after seeing social media posts about the sale. One buyer said he bought five durians for his family at less than half what he would normally pay, calling it “a steal.” The vendor told curious passers-by that the stock was sourced directly from Malaysian plantations, allowing them to offer deep discounts.

The affordable Mao Shan Wang proved to be the star attraction, with many rushing to secure the rich, creamy durians before they sold out. Vendors said Mao Shan Wang stocks were limited and were expected to be snapped up within hours.

Residents living nearby commented that such deals were rare and welcomed the opportunity to enjoy fresh durians without the usual high price tags. Some shoppers were seen carting home entire baskets of durians, planning to share the bounty with friends and relatives.

Singapore’s Love Affair with Durian Continues

Durian remains one of Singapore’s most beloved fruits, often dubbed the “king of fruits” for its strong aroma, creamy texture, and unique taste. Despite polarising opinions among foreigners, locals flock to good deals and special promotions, especially during the peak durian season from June to August.

While durian prices fluctuate due to supply, demand, and weather conditions affecting harvests in Malaysia, events like this Jurong West sale prove that affordable durians can still delight Singaporeans. Vendors said they may hold more similar sales if they receive positive feedback, giving residents more chances to savour their favourite fruit.

For now, those keen on scoring a good deal on durians should act fast — these bargains at Block 964 won’t last long, with queues forming well into the evening.
