A shocking incident unfolded in the emergency room of a public hospital in Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, when a 19-year-old schoolgirl was brutally killed in full view of medical staff and security personnel. The attacker, obsessed with the victim, slit her throat in broad daylight while onlookers failed to step in. The horrifying event, which took place on 27 June, was captured on video and quickly went viral, sparking nationwide outrage.
The victim, Sandhya Choudhary, was a 12th-grade student who had gone to the hospital to visit a friend’s relative. According to local reports, the suspect, Abhishek Kohiti, had been lurking near the hospital since noon, allegedly waiting for Sandhya to arrive. Their brief conversation outside Ward 22 quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
In a video recorded by a bystander, Kohiti can be seen slapping Sandhya before pinning her to the ground, sitting on her chest, and using a knife to slash her throat. The attack resulted in Sandhya bleeding to death on the hospital floor, just metres away from the trauma centre where at least three medical staff were present, along with two security guards posted outside.
No Action from Hospital Staff or Security
The entire attack lasted around 10 minutes, yet none of the hospital staff or security personnel attempted to intervene or stop the assailant. This alarming lapse in hospital security has led to serious concerns over the safety of patients and visitors in Indian healthcare facilities. After committing the crime, Kohiti reportedly tried to harm himself but failed, then fled the scene on a motorcycle. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
When Sandhya’s family arrived at the hospital after being notified of the attack, they found her lifeless body still lying in a pool of blood. Overcome with grief and rage, her relatives and supporters staged a protest outside the hospital, blocking nearby roads and demanding justice. The protest continued until 2am the next day, only ending when local officials promised to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the community. Many patients and their families at the trauma centre were left terrified; of the 11 patients admitted, eight were discharged on the same day, with the remaining three choosing to leave the hospital the next morning due to safety fears.
Calls for Accountability and Public Safety
This case has highlighted serious failures in public safety and hospital security protocols. Questions are being raised about how a violent crime could occur in a hospital emergency room without any immediate intervention from medical staff or guards. Public outrage is growing as citizens demand systemic changes to ensure such tragedies do not happen again.
Local authorities have vowed to take strict action, both against the suspect and those responsible for failing to respond. Meanwhile, community leaders and activists are calling for better protection in public institutions and stricter enforcement of security measures.
The horrifying murder of Sandhya Choudhary serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by violent crime even in places meant to heal and protect. As investigations continue, the victim’s family and the broader public await justice and meaningful reform.
