Car Mounts Divider & Crashes Twice at Farrer Park, Driver Arrested for Suspected DUI

A 39-year-old man was apprehended by the police after a shocking sequence of events unfolded along Race Course Road, near Farrer Park. The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated online, showed the vehicle mounting the central divider before smashing into roadside railings.

The drama began late at night, with witnesses recalling how the car first ended up straddling the road divider. As the driver tried to extricate the vehicle, it reversed violently, causing the rear of the car to collide with another section of metal railings. Chaos ensued as the car then swerved across three lanes of Race Course Road, narrowly avoiding other vehicles.

The car finally came to a stop on a grassy verge after colliding with several parked bicycles, leaving bystanders visibly shaken. Onlookers could be heard shouting at the driver, urging him to stop as he continued to struggle to control the car.

Police Alerted & Driver Arrested at Scene

The Singapore Police Force confirmed they were alerted to the incident at approximately 11:05pm on June 29. Preliminary investigations revealed the car had likely self-skidded while travelling along Race Course Road towards Tessensohn Road, leading to the dangerous chain of collisions.

Fortunately, despite the severity of the crashes, no injuries were reported among motorists, pedestrians, or passers-by. However, the scene drew a crowd as witnesses tried to assist and record the chaotic aftermath on their mobile phones.

Authorities said the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or an intoxicating substance, a serious offence under Singapore’s Road Traffic Act. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police determine the exact circumstances that led to the reckless driving.

Public Safety Concerns & Call for Vigilance

This incident has sparked renewed discussions among road safety advocates about the dangers posed by driving under the influence, especially in busy urban areas like Farrer Park. The late-night crash highlights the potential for devastating consequences not only for drivers but also for innocent bystanders and fellow motorists.

Motorists are reminded of the stiff penalties in Singapore for driving under the influence, which include hefty fines, disqualification from driving, and potential imprisonment. Such enforcement efforts aim to deter irresponsible driving and keep Singapore roads safe for all users.

In recent years, road safety campaigns have emphasised the importance of staying sober behind the wheel, with authorities stepping up patrols in entertainment districts and accident-prone zones. The public is encouraged to report erratic or dangerous driving to the police immediately.
