Lambency Detailing, operated by Quantum Globe Pte. Ltd., has confessed to posting fabricated five-star reviews on its Sgcarmart.com business page for the past two years, the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) announced on 3 July 2025. The admission follows a thorough investigation initiated by CCCS after a customer reported unauthorised reviews written in her name.
CCCS’s investigation revealed that seven other customers’ identities were also misused, with their names, vehicle registration numbers, and car photos appearing in glowing reviews they had never written. When confronted with this evidence, Quantum Globe acknowledged submitting fake customer reviews without their knowledge or consent. The reviews were generated using ChatGPT, based on details of services customers had received, and posted via a QR code feedback system provided by Sgcarmart.com.
The QR code allowed businesses to submit feedback directly to Sgcarmart without customers needing accounts, creating a loophole Quantum Globe exploited to inflate its online reputation. CCCS stressed that this deceptive behaviour amounts to an unfair trade practice, as it misleads consumers into believing a product or service is more highly rated than it truly is, influencing purchase decisions unfairly.
Commitments Made to Restore Consumer Confidence
Following the investigation, Quantum Globe has given several undertakings to CCCS, including immediately ceasing the posting of fake reviews. The company will also establish a feedback channel for six months, allowing customers to report any suspicious reviews. Quantum Globe has pledged to notify affected customers whose information was used without permission and publish notices across Sgcarmart and its own marketing platforms, informing the public of its misconduct and providing details on how to report false reviews.
Additionally, Quantum Globe must promptly remove any reviews confirmed as fake within eight working days, including the seven identified during CCCS’s probe. Mr Matthew Lim Jun Ho, Quantum Globe’s director, has personally committed not to engage in or enable unfair trade practices in the future, reinforcing accountability at the highest level of the company.
CCCS and Sgcarmart Tighten Measures Against Fake Reviews
In response to the findings, Sgcarmart’s parent company, SGCM Pte. Ltd., shared plans to implement stronger verification tools such as SMS or email confirmation for submitted reviews to enhance authenticity on the platform. CCCS emphasised the gravity of fake reviews in eroding consumer trust and harming fair competition among businesses, labelling such tactics as a form of “dark pattern” behaviour that deceives buyers.
CCCS Chief Executive Mr Alvin Koh noted that this marks Singapore’s first case of AI being used to create fake reviews on a third-party platform, underlining the evolving nature of consumer deception in the digital age. He reaffirmed CCCS’s commitment to pursuing businesses that mislead consumers and to supporting a fair, competitive, and trustworthy marketplace in Singapore.
