A shocking encounter unfolded in the early hours of Jun. 29, 2024, when a 50-year-old Singaporean man, Chia Hiok Seah, was discovered naked in his car with a married woman, sparking a dramatic confrontation with her husband that ended in injuries.
Dramatic Scene at Compassvale Carpark
According to court testimony reported by CNA, Chia and the woman, identified only as Shunyi, were caught at around 2am at a multi-storey carpark at Block 278 Compassvale Bow, Sengkang. The incident took a violent turn when Shunyi’s husband, Goh Yong Sern, appeared and tried to confront the pair.
Chia admitted in court on Jul. 4 that he and Shunyi had been nude inside the car but insisted they did not have sexual intercourse, claiming they were “just chatting” as she was menstruating. He described the scene: while sitting in the driver’s seat, Shunyi leaned on the dashboard facing him. Suddenly, lights appeared outside, followed by loud banging and Shunyi’s panicked screams.
Husband’s Violent Confrontation
Chia testified that Goh was furious, banging on the car and trying to break in. Fearing for their safety, Chia attempted to flee, but Goh leapt onto the car bonnet, reportedly smashing the windscreen with his fists. Chia then reversed the vehicle, hoping Goh would let go, but Goh instead fell from the moving car, sustaining facial cuts, chest scratches, and abrasions.
Despite Shunyi’s desperate pleas not to hurt her husband, Chia maintained he acted out of fear for their lives. He claimed Goh’s aggressive behaviour convinced him they were in immediate danger.
A Love Affair Uncovered
The affair began years earlier, Chia said. He met Shunyi, also married, through work in 2018. In 2019, Shunyi allegedly confessed her feelings via text, saying she wanted “more than friendship” and opened up about her unhappy marriage. Though initially hesitant, Chia agreed, and the two began a secret relationship despite both having spouses and families.
Chia insisted the woman initiated the relationship, stating this was not her first extramarital affair. He described the entire ordeal as a “very unfortunate incident,” saying he never imagined being involved in such a scandal.
Husband’s Perspective
On Jul. 1, Lianhe Zaobao reported Goh’s testimony: suspicious after failing to reach his wife that night, he searched for her and discovered Chia’s car, which he recognised from previous encounters. When Goh approached and found the two naked, he tried to open the doors, but they refused to get out. As Chia attempted to drive away, Goh jumped onto the bonnet to stop them but fell off, resulting in his injuries.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Chia faces charges of committing a rash act endangering human life and public nudity. He has pleaded not guilty. Shunyi is expected to testify, which could shed more light on the events leading up to the dramatic confrontation.
This sensational case has gripped Singaporeans, highlighting the explosive consequences of infidelity and the dangers of confrontations that spiral out of control.
