Drunken Riot In Malaysia Banquet: Chairs Fly In Massive Alcohol Fuelled Fight

Banquet Turns Violent in Pontian: Dispute Over Alcohol Auction Sparks Chaos

According to Pontian District Police Chief Mohamad Shafi, the altercation broke out during a bidding segment of the event when several individuals became dissatisfied with the auction prices of alcoholic beverages.

The police believe the suspects were likely under the influence of alcohol, which contributed to the situation escalating into a physical confrontation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the dramatic scenes that unfolded at the venue.

A video circulating on social media shows several men hurling chairs towards the stage, turning the banquet hall into a battleground strewn with overturned tables and scattered debris. The footage also depicts two rival groups engaging in a physical clash, causing widespread panic among other guests.

Police Detain 18 Men Following Brawl

Mohamad Shafi revealed that police responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 11:30 p.m. on 4 July. The incident occurred at a school hall in Pekan Nanas, where the banquet was being hosted. Upon arrival, officers detained 18 male suspects aged between 17 and 48 who are believed to be directly involved in the altercation.

The suspects are currently assisting police with investigations. Seventeen of them have been remanded until 8 July, while one individual will be detained until 9 July. Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect facing the longer remand period is the ringleader of the group, as investigations are ongoing.

The violent brawl has raised concerns about potential involvement of criminal gangs in the incident. Mohamad Shafi stated that police are actively probing whether secret societies or organised crime elements were connected to the dispute.

Social Media Video Draws Public Attention

The shocking scenes, widely shared on platforms like Facebook and TikTok, have triggered intense discussions among netizens about the dangers of alcohol-fuelled gatherings. In the video, several men can be seen throwing chairs with force, while others exchange blows near the stage area. The scale of the violence has sparked debate over event security and the role of alcohol consumption in escalating conflicts.

The police have urged the public not to speculate on the details of the incident, stressing that official updates will be provided as soon as investigations conclude. Meanwhile, organisers of future banquets have been reminded to maintain strict security measures to prevent similar outbreaks of violence.

Residents in Pontian have expressed their shock over the brawl, with many calling for stricter enforcement at events involving alcohol. The police investigation continues, and further charges may be filed depending on the outcome of inquiries into possible involvement by criminal gangs.
