Two Elderly Hong Kong Women Arrested for Drug Trafficking, Police Investigate
Two women in their sixties from Hong Kong have been detained following a police operation uncovering a significant cache of illegal drugs. The arrest highlights ongoing concerns over drug trafficking activities involving unexpected demographics.
The suspects, aged 64 and 66, were apprehended after a raid on a residential unit in the Wong Tai Sin district. Authorities seized approximately 67 grams of suspected heroin, alongside three cartridges of “space oil” drugs, two electronic cigarette guns, an ice container, and eight syringes believed to be used for drug consumption.
Police officers from the Wong Tai Sin Special Duties Unit conducted the search on the evening of 13 July, acting on a tip-off. Both women are currently held in custody as investigations continue into the trafficking and possession of dangerous drugs.
Legal Consequences Under Hong Kong Law
According to Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, anyone convicted of trafficking dangerous drugs faces a maximum penalty of a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment. Possession of paraphernalia intended for drug consumption carries a maximum fine of HK$10,000 and up to three years’ imprisonment.
The authorities emphasised the seriousness of drug offences and reiterated their commitment to combating drug-related crime across all segments of society, regardless of age.
