Former Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been handed a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding in Oxford last year.
The actress, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the popular film franchise, was recorded driving at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone on 31 July 2024. At the time, Watson, now 35, was behind the wheel of a blue Audi.
Her case was heard at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on 16 July 2025, where she was fined £1,044 (approximately S$1,797). Additionally, Watson was given three penalty points on her driving licence, bringing her total to twelve points, which triggered the six-month driving disqualification.
Watson has been pursuing a Master’s degree in creative writing at Oxford University since 2023. She did not attend the brief court hearing.
Another ‘Harry Potter’ Actress Fined on Same Day
On the same day, Zoe Wanamaker, who portrayed Madam Hooch—the Quidditch referee and flying instructor—in the Harry Potter series, was also fined for speeding.
The 76-year-old was caught driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone on 7 August 2024. Like Watson, she had accumulated nine penalty points before this offence.
Wanamaker received the same fine of £1,044 and a six-month driving ban, following the court hearing.
