Popular Punggol Chicken Rice Stall Shuts Despite Earning Over S$30,000 Monthly

A well-loved chicken rice stall in Punggol has announced the closure of one of its outlets, despite reportedly raking in more than S$30,000 in monthly sales.

OK Chicken Rice confirmed via social media that its outlet at 660 Edgedale Plains would cease operations, with its final day already decided following negotiations with the landlord. Staff were informed last Friday night, and members of its loyalty programme received the news on Saturday — along with special vouchers to be used at its remaining branch.

The decision shocked loyal customers, especially as the outlet was still averaging over S$1,000 in daily takings. However, the owners revealed that rising costs, fair staff wages, and the struggle to balance speed, quality, and rental expenses had made it unsustainable.

Staying Put in Punggol With Another Branch

While the Edgedale Plains outlet is closing, the brand is not disappearing from Punggol entirely. OK Chicken Rice will continue operating its flagship store at Blk 308C Punggol Walk, within the Foodgle food court.

The business reassured patrons that the remaining branch is still seeing brisk sales and will continue to serve its signature chicken rice to the neighbourhood.

In its closure announcement, the stall also thanked customers for their support and pointed them to its Google profile, which currently holds an impressive 4.7-star rating.

Community Reactions to the Closure

News of the closure prompted an outpouring of reactions from customers online. Many shared how the outlet had been their go-to for quick and satisfying meals, especially for dinner takeaways.

One Facebook user lamented, “Oh my new favourite chicken rice stall gone 🥲,” while another said it was “the quickest and easiest stall to think of” whenever they didn’t feel like cooking.

The stall’s owner responded to several comments, reassuring customers that the remaining outlet was just a three-minute drive or a 12-minute walk away, urging them to continue their support.
