Man Allegedly Threatens Cats with Penknife in Lengkok Bahru

Residents in Lengkok Bahru were alarmed on 21 August 2025 when a man was reportedly seen attempting to harm cats in the area, prompting multiple witnesses to alert authorities. According to posts shared by members of the “Sayang Our Singapore’s Community Cats” group, the man allegedly tried to splash water on a cat hiding under a van to force it out. He later approached a nearby mama shop, where he purportedly attempted to attack another cat with a penknife in front of children and bystanders. Fortunately, no animals were injured.

Residents and Authorities Respond

Witnesses intervened to protect both the children and the cats, shouting at the man and guiding the children to safety. Some men attempted to follow him, but he managed to cross the road before they could catch up. Police reports have since been filed, and NParks has been updated. An active investigation is currently ongoing. Community members have urged fellow residents to be vigilant and avoid confronting the man directly, especially as he was reportedly carrying a penknife.

Many commenters emphasised the broader risk to public safety. Thomas Kwong noted that anyone armed with a knife poses a potential threat to humans as well as animals. Nurul Atiqah Zainuddin highlighted that the alleged actions in front of children are serious and called for immediate authority intervention. Others suggested the man may regularly target cats and expressed concerns that his behaviour could escalate to harming people if left unchecked.

Calls for Action

Residents have been sharing warnings and urging authorities to take swift measures. Suggestions include strict police action, potential mental health evaluations, and monitoring of his movements. Community members also stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable animals and ensuring the safety of residents, particularly children who were present during the incidents. Police and NParks are currently handling the case, with updates expected as the investigation progresses.

Residents in the area are advised to stay alert, report any suspicious activity, and avoid approaching the individual directly. The case has raised awareness about the need for stronger measures to prevent threats to both animals and public safety in local communities.
