Singapore Airlines to Increase KrisFlyer Miles Needed for Redemptions from Nov 1

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced that its KrisFlyer members will soon require more miles to redeem tickets or upgrade seats, particularly for long-haul destinations such as Europe and the United States. The changes will take effect from 1 November 2025, marking the first adjustment to redemption rates since July 2022.

While the revision means travellers will need between 5 and 20 per cent more KrisFlyer miles for certain routes and cabin classes, the airline is also introducing a new feature called Access, which gives members an additional way to secure confirmed seats using their miles.

Importantly, redemption bookings that are confirmed and ticketed before 1 November will not be affected, and will still follow current award rates.

Breakdown of the KrisFlyer Adjustments

KrisFlyer Redemption Changes from 1 Nov 2025

Region / Cabin ClassSaver Award (Miles Change)Advantage Award (Miles Change)
Europe & US+5% (all cabins)+10–15% (all cabins)
Africa, Middle East, Turkey+10–20% (all cabins)+5% (Economy), +18% (Business), +15% (First)
Asia & South-West Pacific+5% (Business, First/Suites)+10–15% (all cabins)
Asia & South-West Pacific (Economy Saver)–5% (cheaper)

From November, Saver award rates to Europe and the US will rise by 5 per cent across all cabin classes. Flights to Africa, the Middle East and Turkey will see a steeper increase, with award rates rising between 10 and 20 per cent.

Travellers redeeming Business or First/Suites class under Saver awards for Asia and the South-West Pacific will also face a 5 per cent increase. Advantage award rates, which typically cost more miles but offer greater availability, will also climb between 10 and 15 per cent for most regions, with some routes such as Africa and the Middle East seeing increases of up to 18 per cent in Business Class.

However, there is one piece of good news: Economy Saver awards within Asia and the South-West Pacific will drop by 5 per cent, making shorter regional trips slightly more affordable.

New ‘Access’ Option and Status Credit Changes

The introduction of Access will allow KrisFlyer members to redeem miles for confirmed seats even during peak periods, although the required miles will fluctuate depending on demand and seasonality. This option will run alongside the existing Saver and Advantage tiers.

Additionally, from 1 September, members can also earn Status Credits through non-flight spending in Singapore and Australia. This includes shopping and dining with SIA’s Kris+ app, KrisShop purchases, and Pelago bookings. These credits can contribute towards upgrading or maintaining membership tiers such as KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold, PPS Club, and Solitaire PPS Club.

Industry Reactions and Traveller Concerns

Travel experts say the increase was expected, as more consumers are earning miles through credit card spending and lifestyle partnerships, while available award seats remain limited. Aaron Wong, founder of travel site The MileLion, noted that the 5 per cent increase for most long-haul Saver awards was “not as bad as it could have been”, considering the 10 per cent average hike in 2022.

With inflation, rising fuel costs, and growing competition in the aviation sector, loyalty programme adjustments are becoming the norm across global airlines. For Singapore travellers, this means planning redemptions early will be more important than ever.
