Over 50 People Strike 4D Top Prize with ‘2250’ from Sembawang Hungry Ghost Festival Altar

The Hungry Ghost Festival in Sembawang turned out to be unexpectedly rewarding for dozens of residents after the number “2250” displayed at a temporary altar in Block 503A Canberra Link struck the 4D jackpot on Saturday, 23 August.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the altar had been set up the night before as part of the festival rituals. Devotees and passers-by who took notice of the number decided to try their luck, and when it appeared as the winning 4D number, a wave of celebration followed.

An organising committee member revealed that more than 50 people were believed to have won. Many returned to the altar afterwards to show their gratitude with offerings such as fruits, joss paper, toys, and other symbolic gifts.

Thousands in Winnings, One Jackpot of S$60,000

The winnings varied widely, with some pocketing between S$13,000 and S$25,000, while one lucky individual reportedly walked away with S$60,000.

Among those who struck it big was an 87-year-old woman who won S$10,000. Instead of keeping it all for herself, she shared part of her windfall with others in her community, including dishwashing workers at a nearby coffee shop and cleaners in the neighbourhood. “If I can win this much, I want to share the happiness and blessings,” she said.

The generosity did not stop there. Four winners collectively donated more than S$13,000 to support upcoming getai performances, ensuring that the community spirit tied to the festival continues.

A Tradition of Numbers and Faith

The committee member highlighted that this was not the first time numbers from the altar had been linked to 4D draws. Over the past 13 years, there have been several cases where permutations or delayed appearances of altar numbers went on to win in subsequent draws.

This year’s event, however, stood out because the exact number shown was drawn almost immediately, creating a buzz across the community. For many, it reinforced the cultural belief that Hungry Ghost Festival offerings not only honour spirits but can also bring fortune to the living.
