The incident, captured in a 53-second TikTok video, reportedly took place at an undisclosed petrol station on August 26. In the clip, the Singaporean driver is seen pumping RON95, seemingly unconcerned about breaking local regulations.

Calm Intervention Draws Admiration

About 15 seconds into the video, a man in a batik shirt approaches the driver. Although their conversation is inaudible, it is clear that he is addressing the unlawful act. After the encounter, the batik-clad man walks away, shaking his head in a gesture that conveyed disappointment rather than anger.

The Singaporean driver appeared embarrassed, sheepishly closing the fuel cap and driving off with the receipt.

Netizens Commend the Malaysian Driver

The video drew attention on social media, with many praising the Malaysian man for taking action instead of remaining passive. Comments highlighted the audacity of a foreign driver attempting to exploit subsidised petrol in Malaysia, despite Singapore having a stronger currency.

One user wrote, “Good job, brother. We need more brave people like you in Johor Bahru.” Another commented, “(The driver) lives in a country with a higher currency, but he still wants to steal our subsidies.”

Some also called for the petrol station owner to be held accountable for allowing the driver to pump RON95 under their supervision.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions between Singaporean motorists and Malaysian fuel regulations, illustrating how a simple act of civic responsibility can earn significant praise in Malaysia.
