Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has intercepted a large haul of e-vapourisers at Woodlands Checkpoint, highlighting the agency’s vigilance in preventing illegal items from entering the country. During the initial screening, officers discovered e-vapourisers hidden inside the boxes. A more thorough search revealed additional units and components concealed within the air-conditioning units and various compartments throughout the vehicle. The Police K-9 unit was called in to assist with the search. In total, the operation recovered over 890 e-vapourisers along with 6,700 related components. The driver, a Malaysian man, was arrested on the spot, and the case has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.

Strict Border Enforcement Protects Singapore

ICA emphasised that border security is a crucial element of Singapore’s enforcement strategy against illegal vaping products. By intercepting smuggled goods, the agency ensures that local businesses that comply with laws are protected and that public health risks are minimised. Social media reactions show strong public support for ICA’s vigilance, with many netizens praising the thorough checks and enforcement actions.

The incident also underscores the lengths that smugglers may go to evade detection, including hiding prohibited items inside legitimate goods. ICA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining secure borders, safeguarding the nation from illegal activities, and upholding Singapore’s strict anti-vaping regulations.

Public Reaction and Awareness

Online, residents lauded the ICA for its diligence. Comments ranged from calls for even stricter vehicle inspections to appreciation for the protection of law-abiding citizens and businesses. Experts say incidents like this highlight the importance of robust border enforcement to curb the influx of illegal products, particularly e-vapourisers, which carry both health risks and legal consequences for those attempting to smuggle them.
