MOTORCYCLIST TRIES TO EVADE TP, GOES ON PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY, GETS ARRESTED

Motorcyclist Arrested After Stunt at East Coast Park Service Road

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was arrested in the early hours of 31 August after allegedly performing a reckless stunt along East Coast Park (ECP) Service Road. According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the incident took place at about 3.20am and involved dangerous manoeuvres that endangered both the rider and road users.

A TikTok clip circulating online showed two individuals riding dark-coloured motorcycles on the pavement of a bus stop before speeding off along the kerb. The riders appeared to be evading a Traffic Police (TP) officer who was stationed on the road. The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, drew strong reactions from netizens concerned about road safety and public order.

Routine Police Check Led to Arrest

Traffic Police officers patrolling the area had earlier spotted a group of motorcyclists gathering at a nearby carpark. During a routine check, they identified one of the riders who had allegedly carried out the stunt captured on video. He was subsequently arrested and is now under investigation for dangerous driving.

The authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident and whether other riders were involved. The police also reminded the public that reckless driving not only endangers the rider but poses significant risks to pedestrians and other motorists, especially when such acts occur in public spaces like bus stops and service roads.

Legal Consequences of Dangerous Driving in Singapore

Under Singapore’s traffic laws, offenders convicted of dangerous driving face severe penalties, including up to 12 months’ imprisonment, fines of up to S$5,000, or both. Repeat offenders could face even harsher punishments, including disqualification from driving.

Road safety advocates have highlighted that motorcycle-related accidents remain a concern in Singapore, with riders being particularly vulnerable due to the lack of physical protection compared to drivers of larger vehicles. Authorities have urged riders to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid tragedies.

This case serves as a reminder that thrill-seeking behaviour on the roads can result in legal consequences and potentially irreversible harm. The police have emphasised their commitment to clamping down on reckless riding through enforcement and public awareness campaigns.
