A controversy has erupted online after two CCTV clips allegedly linked to the ongoing “BMW doctor” scandal began circulating widely on social media. The videos, which show a woman at a clinic counter and later walking towards a consultation room, were quickly associated with staff from DW Aesthetic.
However, in an official statement shared by the clinic and one of its employees, the allegations were firmly denied. The staff member clarified that she was not the individual captured in the footage and that her image had been wrongly identified by the public.
In her post, she explained that her face had been mistaken for the woman in the recordings, resulting in accusations without any concrete proof. To protect herself, she confirmed that a police report has already been filed. She urged members of the public not to circulate her photographs or those of her colleagues, stressing that such actions could cause serious harm to their personal lives and careers.
The woman said:
“I am one of the DW Aesthetic staff. I would like to clarify that there are two CCTV videos that are currently going viral, one at the counter (cashier) and the other leading to the room. With this, I would like to emphasize that I am not the individual in both recordings. My face has been mistaken and accused without valid evidence. I have filed a police report regarding this matter. I ask for everyone’s cooperation in not spreading pictures of me or other staff, to avoid slander and interference with our lives and careers. Thank you for your understanding and support.”
Clinic Issues Clarification Amid Online Speculation
DW Aesthetic also released a public clarification, stating that the nurse allegedly seen in the videos was not an employee of the clinic. The management called on netizens to refrain from making baseless claims and reminded the public of the dangers of online slander.
Despite this, the topic has gained significant traction on Facebook and TikTok, where thousands of comments speculate about the identities of those involved. While some users expressed sympathy for the wrongly accused staff, others continued to fuel rumours, highlighting how quickly misinformation spreads online.
Risks of Online Misidentification and Defamation
This incident underscores the growing issue of digital misinformation, where viral content can cause reputational damage even before facts are verified. In Singapore and Malaysia, defamation and spreading false allegations online carry legal consequences, including fines and potential lawsuits.
The affected staff member has appealed for understanding and respect, asking the public to allow investigations to take their course rather than jumping to conclusions. She also highlighted the emotional toll such accusations can have on individuals and their families.
As investigations continue, this case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible online behaviour and the need to verify information before sharing. For professionals working in sensitive fields such as healthcare and aesthetics, a single false allegation can have far-reaching consequences.
