Penang Woman Sells BF’s Car To Buy Chanel Bag, To Look Not “Kampung”

A shocking story from Penang has gone viral after a man revealed that his girlfriend secretly sold his car just so she could afford a Chanel handbag.

According to the man, the car in question — an old Perodua Myvi — was not just any vehicle. It was a family keepsake passed down from his elders and had been well maintained for more than a decade. Even though he owned a Proton Saga for daily use, the Myvi carried strong sentimental value.

However, when he returned from a short work trip, the Myvi was nowhere to be found. His girlfriend casually told him that she had sold it off, reasoning that since he already had another car, the Myvi was “just sitting there”.

Sold Through Informal “Sambung Bayar” Deal

The man was further stunned to learn that the car was not sold through a proper dealer. Instead, his girlfriend had used a “sambung bayar” arrangement — essentially handing the car to another person to continue the loan instalments, without any official transfer of ownership.

She proudly told him this method was faster and allowed her to pocket quick cash. With the money in hand, she immediately set her eyes on buying a Chanel handbag.

When questioned, she explained that she had recently joined a new circle of friends where luxury brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior were the norm. Even the “cheapest” among them, she said, carried a Miu Miu bag.

“If I Don’t Carry Branded, I Look Like A Kampung Girl”

Feeling embarrassed for not owning a branded handbag, she told her boyfriend: “If I don’t have one, I look like a kampung girl every time we go to cafes.”

The money from selling the Myvi was still not enough, so she demanded that he top up the difference, arguing, “If I look bad in front of my friends, you also look bad. You can drive a cheap Saga but at least let me carry a nice bag.”

In the end, she managed to get her Chanel and was soon flaunting it on social media with captions such as “Work hard, be your own queen” — as though she had earned it herself.

Her boyfriend, meanwhile, was left driving his old Saga and wondering what she might sell off next.
