Croatian Mirko Grabovac became a Singapore citizen when it was convenient for him to do so, and promptly renounced his citizenship when it was convenient for him to do so.
The people helming the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) who fought for his citizenship in 2002 are all guilty of allowing Singapore to be taken for a jolly ride.
And now, amazingly, Mirko is being allowed to return to Singapore as the Warriors FC coach on an employment pass when it is convenient for him to do so, and make a living off of Singapore and the S.League, which is being funded by taxpayers through government funding provided through Sport Singapore.
There are many others in Singapore who have been stateless, or who have been trying to get the Permanent Resident status only to be rejected over and over again.
There are also other Singaporeans with foreign spouses whose applications for permanent residency or a long-term visit pass are being repeatedly rejected without reasons given.
There are many Singaporean football coaches who possess the necessary licences to coach in the S.League, whom I personally know have been trying to get their opportunities to prove themselves.
Don’t use the argument that Mirko is being hired on merit. With an age restriction policy in place, it is questionable whether any one is being hired on merit or being hired just to meet the criteria set.
Mirko Grabovac has shown no loyalty to Singapore.
That Warriors FC have hired him, and that he is allowed an employment pass is nothing but a disgrace.
