Autonomous Shuttle Collides with Road Divider in Punggol

An autonomous shuttle operated jointly by ComfortDelGro (CDG) and Pony.ai was involved in a minor collision along Edgedale Plains in Punggol, leaving its front bumper damaged. The incident occurred shortly after residents were invited to participate in a trial run of the driverless shuttle service in the neighbourhood.

The shuttle, intended to operate Route 2 in north-east Punggol, is still in the early testing phase. Photographs circulated on social media show the vehicle with a broken front bumper parked beside an HDB carpark, while another image suggests the same shuttle was later being towed by a lorry.

No passengers were present at the time, and there were no injuries, a CDG spokesperson confirmed. The vehicle was conducting routine mapping and familiarisation exercises in the area when the incident occurred.

What Led to the Collision

According to CDG, the shuttle detected a small object on the road at approximately 3:10pm on January 17. The safety operator onboard attempted to manually steer the vehicle to avoid the obstacle.

Despite the operator’s intervention, the shuttle collided with a road divider. CDG stated that all their autonomous vehicles will undergo a temporary safety pause while the incident is reviewed, following standard protocols in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirmed CDG’s account, noting that the shuttle was in a road-testing phase when the minor collision occurred. The vehicle had been undergoing tests since December 15, 2025, with a safety operator and no passengers onboard.

Road Testing and Safety Measures

This early testing phase is designed to calibrate the shuttle’s sensors to local road conditions, LTA said. The authority will work closely with CDG to examine the incident thoroughly and ensure safety measures are upheld.

CDG emphasised that the collision was minor and part of the ongoing preparation for autonomous shuttle operations in the area. Residents are encouraged to continue observing safety guidelines during trial runs.

As autonomous vehicle trials expand across Singapore, authorities continue to monitor performance and safety closely, balancing innovation with public security.
