Man Pinned Down & Arrested After Allegedly Harassing Staff at River Valley High School

A 33-year-old man was arrested after an alleged disturbance at River Valley High School (RVHS), where he is said to have harassed school staff and later shouted at police officers who were called to intervene.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 23, when the man reportedly went to the school’s general office looking for a teacher. According to Chinese-language media reports, he refused to leave the premises despite repeated requests from staff.

School authorities subsequently contacted the police as the situation escalated. In a message sent to parents, RVHS principal Choy Wai Yin confirmed that the individual involved was a visitor and that no staff or students were injured during the incident.

Police Say Man Was “Uncooperative” During Intervention

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a call for assistance at around 4.20pm that day. When officers arrived, the man allegedly refused to provide his personal details and became increasingly uncooperative.

Police said he repeatedly shouted at officers, challenged their authority, and ignored multiple warnings to comply with instructions. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, the man continued to resist police directions.

He was eventually arrested for disorderly behaviour. SPF clarified that no weapons were involved and no injuries were reported during the arrest, underscoring that the situation was contained without physical harm to others.

Photos Circulate Online, School Confirms Safety Measures

Images shared on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu later showed a man in a white shirt being restrained on the ground by police officers before being escorted into a police vehicle. The photos quickly circulated online, drawing public attention to the incident.

School officials reassured parents that student safety was not compromised and that normal school operations were not disrupted. The principal’s message emphasised that established security protocols were followed promptly once the situation was deemed disruptive.

Incidents involving disorderly conduct on school premises are treated seriously in Singapore, particularly where staff or students may be affected. Legal experts note that refusing to comply with police instructions can result in arrest, even if no physical violence is involved.

The case has sparked discussion online about boundaries on school grounds, public behaviour, and cooperation with law enforcement. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further action will depend on the outcome of police inquiries.
